Description
The Farmhouse Lodge is a beautiful hotel right in the middle of Iceland’s magnificent South Coast sightseeing route. Location & Nearby
The Farmhouse Lodge could not be more conveniently placed, sitting just beside Route 1 almost exactly at a halfway point between Reykjavik and the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. This means guests who are either embarking on a Ring Road adventure or touring the South Coast in depth will have a perfect base from which to travel.
In its immediate vicinity are two of the region’s most spectacular sites. Just 15 minute’s drive away (or just over an hour and a half’s walk) are the Dyrholaey cliffs and rock arch. Not only is the geology here breathtaking, but in summer this is one of the country’s most accessible puffin nesting grounds.
Reynisfjara, meanwhile, which adjacent to the cliffs in the shadow of the mighty Reynisdrangar sea stacks, is a famous black sand beach. Though it is not as easy to walk to, you could comfortably cycle there in a couple of hours with the bikes available at the lodge.
Other major sites of the South Coast, like Solheimajokull glacier and Skogafoss waterfall, are only twenty minutes away by car. The beautiful Jokulsarlon, the most far-flung site of the region, can be reached in less than three hours.
Facilities & Amenities
The Farmhouse Lodge offers cosy and affordable single, double and triple rooms, which have shared bathrooms facilities, as well as some double and triple rooms with en suites. Only 20 people can stay in the hotel at a time, ensuring an atmosphere of tranquillity and privacy. All rooms have comfortable beds, rural views, cheery decor, and fast Wifi.
From June 1st to September 15th, the guesthouse is a great place to go ‘glamping’, with 12 comfortable, spacious tents available on site for up to four guests at a time.
