The town of Hofn is the closest town at only 5.5 miles (9 kilometers) away, on the Port of Hofn. A natural bay is formed around the small fjord Hornafjordur by a stretch of beach called Austurfjour. A viewpoint station looking out onto the fjord is right across the street from the farm around Dynjandi Guesthouse. From there, you can see the Port of Hofn and the open ocean beyond the fjord.

Just past Dynjandi Guesthouse on the Ring Road is Almannaskaro, a 4,265 foot (1,300-meter) tunnel through the solid rock of the mountain. This is a tourist attraction because of the amazing tunnel engineering. There is a viewpoint above the tunnel beside the old mountain pass.

From Dynjandi on the Ring Road just past Hofn, you will reach Diamond Beach, just below Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon. It is 50 miles (78 kilometers) north of Hofn on the Ring Road and is famous for small icebergs washing up on the black sand beaches. The lagoon is an outlet of the Vatnajokull icecap. Gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and sightseeing are in Hofn. Hofn Port is a fishing village, and it is surrounded by water on three sides. A view of the Vatnajokull icecap can be seen from the port. There is also the historic Phare de Hellir lighthouse just beyond the port. Boat tours leave from the port regularly.
