Description

The Merkurhraun Guesthouse is a house in south Iceland that is perfect for large groups and families who want to immerse themselves in nature close to the Golden Circle. Central to many major attractions, it promises to be a home away from home for any who choose it as their accommodation.

Location & Nearby

The Merkurhraun Guesthouse is named after the dramatic lava field it sits beside. It is surrounded by rural beauty, with the nearest towns, Selfoss and Hella, 15 and 20 minutes away respectively. Both of these are centres of geothermal energy and have grocery stores, pharmacies, post offices, petrol stations and shops.

In terms of natural attractions, the nearest is the little-known but beautiful waterfall of Urridafoss, just five minutes away. Two of the country’s most spectacular and best-known sightseeing routes, however, take only 45 minutes in opposite directions to reach.

Travelling northwest, you will come to the Geysir Geothermal Area, the first site of the Golden Circle, from which you can access Gullfoss Waterfall and Thingvellir National Park. Southeast, you’ll first come to Seljalandsfoss, from which you can continue along the South Coast to sites such as Reynisfjara beach and the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon.

Facilities & Amenities

The Merkurhraun Guesthouse has four bedrooms; two of them have a double bed and a bunk bed, one has a double bed and two bunk beds, and one just has a double bed. With the additional sofabed in the living, room, 17 people could comfortably find a place to sleep.

In the rest of the house is a spacious kitchen, fully furnished with even a dishwasher, and dining room, as well as a luxurious lounge with a Bluray television. The outdoor areas are beautiful places to look out for the aurora borealis in winter or to enjoy the light of the Midnight Sun in summer.

There is one bathroom in the house, which boasts a hot-tub bath, utilising the geothermal energy of the area.
