Description

Guesthouse Heba is a personality-rich B&B in the South Iceland seaside village of Stokkseyri 41 miles (66 kilometers) southeast of Reykavik. Host Heba, a ceramic artist, and hubby, Kristjan, have curated a cozy and charm-filled getaway in an unbeatable location with views over the lava skerries, the North-Atlantic Ocean, and Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull volcanos.

Location & Nearby

In a postcard-perfect Icelandic-blue house perched right on the sea in Stokkseyri, Guesthouse Heba could be something out of a fairy tale. Besides the North Atlantic barreling down on the guesthouse's front yard, Kayakferdir, a kayak and adventure tour company, is just a 7-minute walk from Heba. Here you can partake take advantage of the area's famed sea kayaking. The Ghost Center, a museum that highlights Iceland's most famous ghosts, and the Icelandic Wonders Museum, dedicated to Elves and Northern lights, are a similar distance away in the the village’s Culture House. The Thuridarbud 19C fishermen's booth chronicles the history of the town's important fishing history. Stokkseyri is also home to art galleries, handicraft shops, a swimming pool, and the highly-renowned seafood restaurant Fjorubordid. A reservation here means delighting in local langoustines served a variety of ways.

Down the coast three miles (five kilometers) east of the village, Knarraros Lighthouse (1938), Iceland's first lighthouse built with reinforced concrete, stands sentinel. Bring your camera – this startling marriage of functionalism and Art Nouveau designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and Axel Sveinsson is unlike any lighthouse you have likely ever seen before. Eyrarbakki, another charming fishing village, is just 3.7 miles (six kilometers) west. The important cultural hub and fun town of Selfoss is just nine miles (14.5 kilometers) north of Heba. Located the on the banks of the Olfusa river, the town counts as South Iceland's largest residential area. The presence of FSU Fjolbrautaskoli Sudurlands, one of Iceland's largest colleges, ensures there are plenty of restaurants and bars for an enjoyable night out. Just six miles (9.6 kilometers) further north of Selfoss is Ingolfsfjall, an 1807-foot (551 meter) tall tuff mountain, and from there you are less than an hour away from the Golden Circle sights of Gullfoss waterfall, Strokkur geyser, and Thingvellir National Park.

Stokkseyri is also well-positioned to catch a glimpse of the northern lights.
