The coastlines around Reykjavík are beautiful and diverse.

Thrust yourself into the incredible lava landscapes of Iceland by booking this seven-hour ATV and caving day tour. This adventure should not be overlooked by those seeking to pack their days in Iceland with exhilarating experiences.

Your day begins when you are picked up from the meeting point on your voucher in Reykjavík by your friendly guides and are whisked to the ATV base camp just outside the city. Here, you’ll change into the safety gear provided, receive a quick briefing, then hop onto your quad-bike for your adventure.

To drive an ATV, you need to have a valid driver’s license, and to ride as a passenger, you need to be over five years old.

The journey will first take you racing around the serene Lake Hafravatn and up Úlfarsfell Mountain, one of the peaks overlooking Reykjavík and its surrounding nature, for some spectacular views. After you’ve marvelled at the panorama and taken your photos, you’ll hit the trails again, racing into the beautiful Blue Mountains.

This route will show you mossy landscapes and expanses of lava rock before you arrive on a lava plateau. Beneath this lunar landscape is the Leiðarendi cave network, and you will take a quick break from quad-biking to explore it.

Caving is a fascinating, exciting experience, and Leiðarendi is one of the most challenging and adventurous places to conduct the activity. Its twisting trails require a degree of crawling and clambering, and they are lined with stalagmites and stalactites.

On your subterranean journey, your guide will tell you about the folklore and geology of the caves and allow you to enjoy a moment with the torches off, in total darkness.

When you emerge into the light of the day, you will return to your ATV and continue your adventure. This time, you will shoot along the Reykjanes Peninsula, marvelling over its volcanic peaks and otherworldly landscapes.

Your main destinations on this peninsula are Lake Djúpavatn and the Krýsuvík Geothermal Area. The former is a serene place where you can stop for a moment and enjoy the silence and remoteness of Iceland’s nature. The latter is seething with the forces of the earth, and you can follow a safe wooden trail around the hot springs and fumaroles to admire the natural phenomenon.

Overall, you will be on the ATV for six hours, meaning you will cover a surprising amount of the sites of the southwest, all the while feeling the thrill of adrenaline-pumping adventure. The tour ends when you are picked up in your minibus and escorted back to Reykjavík.

Don’t miss this fantastic day of exhilaration and nature. Check availability by choosing a date.
