Description

Immerse yourself in the wonderful nature of Iceland with this thrilling, three hour ATV tour. This adventure should not be overlooked by those who want their Icelandic holiday to be defined by beautiful landscapes and exhilarating adventure.

To join this tour, you will meet your guides at their base camp, which is located just on the outskirts of Reykjavík; it is easy to drive or bus too, but there is an optional pick-up service should you require it. Once you arrive, you’ll be dressed in overalls, gloves and a helmet, before being introduced to your vehicle.

To operate an ATV, you will need to present a valid driver’s license on arrival. If you don’t drive, or are travelling with kids, worry not; everyone over the age of five is welcome to be a passenger.

Once you are kitted up and have mounted, you’ll set off on the beginning of your adventure. The first tracks will take you into the shadow of Mount Esjan, Iceland’s most popular hiking area, where you’ll get used to your all-terrain vehicle across a variety of different landscapes. Expect to cross rivers, bumpy roads and old bridges, while marvelling over mountains, valleys and stunning landscapes.

You’ll then head towards the first of two peaks that you will summit, Hafrafell, after driving around its serene adjacent lake, Hafravatn. The route to the top is beautiful, if a little bumpy and daunting at times.

At the peak, you’ll be able to stop to stretch your legs and take some photos. If the weather is clear, you’ll get to look down on the beautiful city of Reykjavík, pointing out its landmarks such as Hallgrímskirkja church and Harpa concert hall, and the glittering waters of Faxaflói Bay. If you are particularly lucky, you’ll even be able to see the Reykjanes and Snæfellsnes Peninsulas.

After enjoying this (and swapping seats if you are riding with another driver), you’ll take the exciting route down the mountain, before ascending another, Úlfarsfell. You’ll stop once you have summited again for even more spectacular views and photo opportunities.

Finally, after three exciting hours, you will make your way back to the base camp, to get on with the rest of your day.

Please note that while not terribly taxing, this adventure is a little more tiring than the one- or two-hour journeys on offer, so should only be taken by those with a reasonable level of energy and fitness.

Don’t miss your chance to immerse yourself in the mountainous landscape around Reykjavík. Check availability by choosing a date.
