Affordable South Coast Bus Tour

Based on 8 traveller reviews

Join this awe-inspiring sightseeing tour along the beautiful south coast of Iceland. With waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers and black sand beaches, you will have the opportunity to see a wealth of diverse scenery in just one day.

You will be picked up from your Reykjavík hotel, or a pre-arranged meeting point, from 8 am. Once your whole group is gathered, you will start to make your way east. The drive is very scenic, and your guide will note any points of interest that you will pass. One such feature will be the glacier Eyjafjallajökull, which gained notoriety in 2010 when the volcano beneath it erupted and severely hampered air travel across Europe.

The first stop, however, will be at Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This is a beautiful feature in the landscape, and unique in the sense that it is possible to walk all the way around it due to the concave shape of the cliff it tumbles from. Once you have enjoyed the area, and taken your photos from behind the cascading water, it is back on the road to the next falls.

At 60 metres (197 ft) tall and up to 25 metres (82 ft) wide, the Skógafoss waterfall is awe-inspiringly powerful, and the spray rising from its base throws off many rainbows when the sun is shining. It is possible to ascend a staircase beside the falls for a unique perspective and a good look at the birds who nest in the surrounding cliffs.

Following Skógafoss, you will stop at Sólheimajökull glacier where your guide will walk you right up to its edge, allowing you to look at an ancient world of blue and white ice, veined with the black ash of eruptions dating back centuries. After drinking in the beauty of this magnificent place, it is back on the road to the fascinating cape Dyrhólaey.

The dramatic basalt cliffs here stretch out into the ocean and feature an enormous sea arch. Puffins and other seabirds nest all around the area during summer. From Dyrhólaey, looking east, it is possible to see the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, promontories that rise 66 metres (217 ft) from the ocean. Legend has it that these are two petrified trolls, who were caught in the sun when trying to pull a ship ashore.

You will get a better view of Reynisdranger at the final stop of the day, Reynisfjara beach. This stretch of coast is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Iceland, with its black sands, fascinating geology, and dramatic waves. Once you have fully enjoyed this magnificent shore, it is time to head back to Reykjavík, with a camera full of photos and a head full of memories.

There is so much you can see on the South Coast in just one day. Don't let this experience pass you by. Come aboard for a sightseeing experience to remember; check availability by choosing a date.

The trip was great. We visited all places that was listed, plus one additional that wasn't in the list, had enough time in all the places to take photos and enjoy view. Our driver was the guide too. was really funny, told as about iceland history and the places that we were visiting.

The scenery was awesome. We like the waterfalls and the black beach very much. The guide was also knowledgeable and told us many folk stories in Iceland. The driver was friendly and funny. However, it would be even better if less time was spent on the transportation arrangement as we were to have different activities in the afternoon. Some glacier hiking and some visiting black beach. Tour was said to start at 8am yet we only reached the first waterfall at 12:30pm.

Unfortunately, I waited for 45 minutes in the snow for the bus, which I later found out arrived just after I gave up. Sterna Travel was kind enough to put me on a shorter tour leaving later the same day and refund me the difference. The tour was excellent — Baldur, our tour guide, was very knowledgable, entertaining, and welcoming. I just wish I could have seen the South Coast!

Incredible expérience ! It's à must when visitons Iceland. Very professional organisation and guide.
