Description

Come along on an adventurous trip, off the beaten path, to experience the forces of Icelandic nature. This tour is for anyone who would like to explore the little-seen phenomenon of a naturally formed ice cave or anyone who wants to feel the frosty air on their cheeks as they enjoy the wilderness of Iceland.

The tour departs from the famous glacier lagoon every day at 9 AM and 2 PM, driving approximately 30 minutes off-road to Iceland’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. You'll see the best of Iceland on the scenic drive through the Highlands and, once you get yourself to Jökulsárlón on the South Coast, your guides will take care of the driving.

After a short hike through Vatnajökull National Park from the parking area to the cave, your guides will provide you with the right equipment and take you into the magical blue caves. Your guides are professional, experienced and know the caves inside out, so you are in safe hands.

The search for the ice caves each year is an odyssey in itself. It begins in the summer when huge quantities of water have melted from the glacier, running underneath it and forming the shapes of the walls and roof. When the weather turns cold again, these places freeze, and pure glacial water continues to pour down.

Eventually, what's left behind is a cavern of wonders, always unique and unexpected, carefully examined by the guides so that it is safe to enter. Don't miss your chance to see this!

You'll have 45 minutes or so inside the cave to take pictures, admire the deep blue ice and investigate the ice formations in the cave before you jump into a Super Jeep and return to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon.

The ice caves are a rare and hugely popular part of winter in Iceland, so reserve your spot now as to not miss out. Check availability by choosing a date.
