The countryside is calling! Explore the vast plains of Skagafjörður valley in North Iceland on the back of the country's most loved companion; the Icelandic horse.

The remote valley of Skagafjörður is the centre of horse breeding in Iceland and the only region in the country where the horses outnumber humans. You'll discover this amazing place, surrounded by the flat-topped mountains of the Tröllaskagi peninsula, while riding one of our charismatic horses.

This 2-hour riding adventure takes you into the heart of the countryside, following narrow trails, riding through farms and crossing the Svartá river on horseback. Depending on the season you can observe the daily life of the many animals roaming the meadows. Watch lambs being born, horses gallop around the fields, sleepy cows relaxing in the sunshine next to the river and dogs helping the farmers with their livestock.

Travelling on horseback was the only mode of transport in this area for hundreds of years. Experiencing the connection between you and your horse is what makes this trip truly unforgettable.

Whether you are a first-time rider looking to try something new or a lifelong horse enthusiast, this tour is an excellent choice for you. We can adapt the speed and the trail we follow to individual needs.  Our passionate guides will make sure you have a safe and enjoyable trip while answering all the questions you might have about the horses and the area.

After the ride, you can opt to relax in the hot spring close to our stables, by taking a short walk to Reykjafoss waterfall, the beautiful waterfall located a stone's throw away and take a bath in Fosslaug, the little hot spring right next to the falls.

Take a break on your travels around the island and explore the countryside with us and our wonderful four-legged companions, the Icelandic Horses! Check availability to choose a date.

Good to know

Be prepared for all kinds of weather and wear lots of layers! We recommend thermal underwear, sweater(s) and a windproof jacket as well as gloves, a scarf and warm socks. Wear comfortable pants and strong shoes (hiking boots are fine). We will provide you with a helmet and rain gear or a snow suit. Please note that we require you to wear a helmet when riding with us, so if you'd like to wear a woollen hat or headband, make sure it's a thin one and fits comfortably under a helmet.

In case you bring your own riding clothes and boots, they must be disinfected before you arrive. It is prohibited by Icelandic law to bring used riding gear including saddles, bridles, etc. into the country, as well as used leather riding boots, other leather riding wear or riding gloves. Riding clothes, rubber riding boots and any other gear should be machine-washed (min. 40°) or dry-cleaned (chemically cleaned), and disinfected with VirkonS®.

We reserve the right to alter any itinerary in the guests' best interest and for reasons of safety. This will not reduce the quality of our tours!
