You will begin the tour at the farm Skeiðvellir where you will meet your friendly and experienced guide. They will then proceed to teach you about basic Icelandic horse riding technique, as well as provide you with all of the necessary equipment. Afterward, your guide will pick out the best Icelandic horse to fit your experience level.

When everyone is ready, you will mount your horse and begin an unforgettable journey across the stunning Icelandic landscape. You will traverse the wilderness, following country trails that bring you within range of not only glaciers and mountains, but also through herds of Icelandic horses.

Icelandic horses are one of the purest breeds on earth, having lived isolated in Iceland for approximately 1000 years. Because of this, any horse that leaves Iceland is forbidden to return. They are also famed the world over for their small, yet muscular stature and five unique gaits, some of which you can try during your ride.

At one point during your horse riding experience, your guide will stop the group to both take photos and allow the horses to take a break. Overall, your experience will last approximately 2 hours, during which time you will get a better understanding of the Icelandic horse, as well as witness the beauty of Iceland’s countryside firsthand.  

Once you return to the farm, you will finish off together in the cafeteria to enjoy a hot drink and discuss your highlights from the trip. Given the wealth of natural sights and sounds you’ve just experienced, don’t be surprised to find yourself full of adrenaline.
