Hop aboard the most convenient way to journey from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar, in the Icelandic Highlands. Travel in comfort to one of the most remote and idyllic locations in Iceland.
Landmannalaugar is a diverse area with colourful rhyolite mountains and obsidian post-glacial lava fields. It is a popular tourist destination and hiking hub in Iceland's Highlands. Landmannalaugar is also an ideal base for a variety of rewarding daylong or shorter hikes, including the famous Laugavegur trekking trail. For the perfect relaxation at the end of your day, take a dip in the local natural geothermal pool and enjoy a hot shower afterwards. Camping facilities and mountain hut accommodation are also available.
The roads to Landmannalaugar are unpaved and can be very rough. We will even drive across a few unbridged rivers. The roads are F-marked and are therefore cars must have four-wheel drive to drive on them. Our highland buses are specially equipped for steep mountain roads like these, and our drivers have decades of experience driving these roads.
Among local hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, there is a long tradition for using buses like ours to access the wonderland that is the Icelandic Highlands. Indeed the bus journey is, for many, a highlight of the trip. This shouldn't have to come as a surprise considering that you will pass by some incredible landscape views, including volcanoes, glaciers, glacial rivers, green mountain tops, all kinds of waterfalls and black lava fields covered in moss. This creates a magnificent contrast with the white, red and yellow colours of the geothermally active area in Landmannalaugar.
The bus starts in Reykjavík, with pick-ups at the City Hall, at the campsite in Laugardalur, and Kvikk convenience store next to Kringlan mall. It then makes its way to the South Coast. Before leaving Route 1, the bus will make a couple of stops in the small towns of Hveragerdi, Selfoss and Hella, where passengers can hop aboard. In Hella, the bus will stop for about 20 minutes so that passengers and staff can buy lunch at the grocery store/bakery and go to the restroom. After this, but shortly before we enter the F-marked roads, the bus will stop for pick-ups at Leirubakki guesthouse and Rjupnavellir resort.
Please note this is a one-way transfer. If you intend to use our Daily Highland Bus service to get back to Reykjavik, please book your return from either Landmannalaugar or Thorsmork.

Check availability by choosing a date.
This is a scheduled bus with no guide and no planned activity once we arrive. However, there is plenty of things to do and see once in Landmannalaugar. The wardens can give detailed information on long or short hiking trails and about attractions. Note that there is a small facility fee to use the restroom and showers.
Snacks, food and basic supplies can be bought at the local Mountain Mall café, however, we would recommend bringing some food and drinks on the tour.
