Come along on a journey across the country, to see one of the most spectacular natural features of Iceland: the stunning Dettifoss waterfall. This tour is for anyone wanting to see the beautiful sights of North-Iceland in just a single day.
You will start the day at Reykjavík Domestic Airport and take a short flight to the northern town of Akureyri where you will meet your guide.
From Akureyri, the northern capital of Iceland, you'll make your way to Dettifoss waterfall with a short stop in the beautiful Lake Mývatn area to admire the view.
Fed by meltwater from Vatnajökull glacier, Dettifoss is one of the most powerful waterfalls in all of Europe, with a width of 100 metres (328 ft.) and falling from a hight of 45 metres (150 ft.) into the stunning Jökulsárgljúfur canyon.
A walking path takes you right to the falls, where the wall of water that flows over the rocks has carved its way into the canyon over aeons.
Mist is churned wildly by its passing, and rainbows are common on sunny days. You’ll have plenty of time to explore and drink in the beauty of the landscape here. Walk the paths to find the prettiest angle and take as many pictures as you like.
It takes a few minutes to walk from the parking area to reach the falls, but once you're there, you’ll be greeted by the gorgeous sight. During the winter, the ground may be covered with snow but don't worry! Your guide will provide snowshoes to make sure the rocky terrain is easy and safe for you to cross.
You will then be guided to the nearby waterfalls Hafragilsfoss and Selfoss which, although smaller in size, are still impressive in their unique beauty.
You’ll then return to beautiful Akureyri in time to catch the afternoon flight back to the capital city.
Don’t miss this chance to see one of the most glorious waterfalls in Iceland! Check availability by choosing a date.
During the tour, there will be time for refreshments at a local restaurant or café. Changes in the weather and/or road conditions may cause the tour to be altered, take longer than stated or be cancelled. Your tour guide will keep you informed.
