Family River Fun Rafting on the Hvita River | Meet on Location

Embark on a river rafting tour that the whole family can enjoy on this adventure along the Hvita river! Families with kids aged eight and over who are driving around Iceland should not miss this thrilling tour.

You’ll start this excursion when you reach the Drumbo rafting base camp, just downstream of Gullfoss waterfall. This is close to the Golden Circle sightseeing route, an essential trail for all travelers due to the beauty of its iconic sights, making it very accessible. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by your guides who will dress you in life jackets, wetsuits, and helmets, provide you with oars, then lead you onto some buses for a short journey to the river.

Here, you’ll receive a demonstration on how to operate your raft before setting out onto the churning glacial waters of the Hvita. Each raft seats between eight and ten, allowing larger families to have their own vessel. The fun begins immediately as you navigate into a breathtaking valley, where a beautiful journey through dramatic cliffs, geological marvels, and rolling countryside awaits.

You’ll go both through serene waters and choppy rapids, making the ride as relaxing as it is exciting. Though a current will help you along, at moments, the whole family will have to paddle hard around protruding rocks, adding to the sense of adventure. Worry not, however; this tour starts a little further downriver than the standard excursion, avoiding the most tumultuous parts of the course so that everyone feels safe.

When you reach the end of the rafting route, buses will be waiting to drive you back to base camp, where you’ll return the equipment. Not only can you warm up with a shower here, but there is a lovely sauna all guests are welcome to bask in, providing a perfect way to relax after your adventure.

Once you are ready to leave, you’ll return to your vehicle and can get on with your Golden Circle sightseeing, or head onto another adventure!
