Description

Join the original Katla Ice Cave tour, hands down the fastest way to experience the joys of ice caving in Iceland. This is the perfect tour opportunity for those travelers a little pressed for time, but still hoping to fit a spot of ice caving into their schedule. The tour, unlike the ice cave tours from Jokulsarlon, is available all year long and does not require traveling all the way to the glacier lagoon.

This tour will begin from the meeting point in the village of Vík, from where you will embark on an exciting Super Jeep ride to one of thirteen glaciers in Iceland, taking no more than an hour's travel. Throughout your transfer to the ice cave, you will experience gorgeous scenery, ranging from distant mountain landscapes to the rugged coastlines of the South Coast.

Once at the glacier area, you will borrow gear (e.g., helmet, headlamp, and crampons, etc.) and receive an educational safety briefing from your local guide. You’ll then take the short 5-10 minute walk to the ice cave and go inside to explore it.

Inside the ice cave, you will encounter stunning shades of blue found only in this fantastical glacier world. You'll pass naturally formed ice sculptures and tunnels, proving once and for all that ice caving takes any holiday experience to the next level.

The bridges, ropes, and ice screws along the route are checked daily to make sure we can operate in safe conditions. Please note that the number of bridges can vary due to natural changes in the glacier. Based on the current conditions within the cave, we will cross a small stream to walk on whichever side is the widest and safest.

You will have a total of 45-60 minutes in the glacier area for photos and exploration. Your local guide will give you a little more insight into how the ice cave was formed and answer any questions you may have.

After taking some stellar photos and enjoying the unique icy landscape, you'll hike back out and take your borrowed gear off. Then it’s time to return to the village of Vík so you can continue your journey discovering Iceland!

So what are you waiting for? Hurry now, and you too can experience the joys of ice caving in Iceland! Check availability by choosing a date.
