Description

Hike across the ice of a spectacular glacier and marvel over two world-famous waterfalls with this fantastic combo tour. Those eager to combine sightseeing and adventure into a single excursion from Reykjavik should book while spaces are available!

Once you are picked up from the capital in a minibus, you’ll set out into the landscapes of south Iceland, passing through some gorgeous countryside and along a spectacular coast. Your first site will be Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which stands 60 meters tall and pours in a thin stream from a concave cliff.

Because of the shape of this cliff, it is sometimes possible to fully encircle the cascading water for some unique views; even if not, it is still stunning from the front. It is surrounded by verdant fields and wildflowers throughout summer, whereas in winter, snow piles many meters deep around it.

Next, you’ll come to Skogafoss waterfall. Just as tall as Seljalandsfoss, it is far more powerful, tumbling with enormous force and throwing off an enormous cloud of spray; if the sun is shining, this effect creates many rainbows. You can walk right up to the edge of the falls (although it will get a little wet!) and can scale a staircase beside it for more views.

After witnessing these two wonders, it is time for your glacier adventure! You’ll be driven to Solheimajokull, a tongue of Myrdalsjokull, the country’s third-largest ice cap. Your guide will brief you on safety, provide you with helmets, crampons, and an ax then will lead you onto the spectacular surface.

You’ll get to marvel over the vivid shades of white and blue in the ice, as well as veins of ash from historic eruptions; there will be gleaming walls, dramatic crevasses, striking ridges, and streams of fresh water you can drink from. Furthermore, the views over the South Coast on clear days are absolutely mesmerizing.

Your guide will tell you about the science behind the glaciers and the importance of protecting them as you explore and provide you with several photo opportunities.

Once you have completed your adventure, you’ll return to your vehicle, give back the equipment, and be whisked back along the beautiful South Coast to Reykjavik.

Combine a visit to two breathtaking waterfalls with a glacier hike on this thrilling tour! Check availability by choosing a date.
