Description

Enjoy the sites of the breathtaking South Coast and scale a magnificent glacier without worrying about other tourists by booking this private, full-day excursion from Reykjavik. Travelers seeking a personalized experience as they enjoy classic Icelandic adventures should book now!

Your day starts when you and your group are picked up by a friendly guide in Iceland’s capital. Without having to pick up any other guests, you’ll head into the nature of south Iceland. As you travel to your first destination, you’ll marvel over geothermal areas, black sand beaches, beautiful mountains, and scenic countryside.

In clear weather, you’ll also be able to see the notorious volcano of Eyjafjallajokull and the archipelago of the Westman Islands.

Your guide will keep you entertained as you drive with local folk stories and facts about Iceland’s nature. There are no other travelers to interrupt you or steal focus if you have any questions about the landscapes or life in the land of ice and fire.

Your first major stop will be at Skogafoss, a waterfall renowned for its breathtaking power. Over 60 meters tall, you can ascend a staircase adjacent to it for some brilliant perspectives in summer. Even in winter, you can walk right up to its blooming cloud of spray, although you should be cautious not to get wet!

Your guide will then drive you around the corner to the glacier you’ll ascend, Solheimajokull. A tongue of the greater Myrdalsjokull, this feature is famous for its unique coloration, with shades of blue, black, and white streaking through the ice. It also has beautiful views from its peak and plenty of strange formations.

Before you start your climb, your guide will brief you on safety and provide you with crampons, an ice ax, and a helmet. They’ll then lead you onto the stunning slopes, past deep crevasses, and along towering ice walls, describing the forces at work here. You’ll notice crystal clear streams as you trek, providing a refreshingly pure place to stop and fill up your water bottle.

After your glacier hike, you’ll head to the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. Best known for its offshore sea stacks of Reynisdrangar, which were once said to be trolls frozen by the sun, there is a unique air of the ominous here that few other places can boast.

You’ll refresh in the adjacent village of Vik, Iceland’s southernmost settlement, before taking the Ring Road back to Reykjavik. However, you have another stop at the spectacular waterfall of Seljalandsfoss. You can enter the cavern behind the cascade for a fascinating and unforgettable view of the South Coast in clear conditions.

Explore the South Coast of Iceland and hike a glacier with a personal guide on this private adventure. Check availability by choosing a date.
