Join this tour for a unique snorkelling adventure among the bubbly water of the Kelifarvatn geothermal lake.
Nestled in a stunning volcanic landscape, lake Kleifarvatn offers a unique opportunity to swim within Iceland's waters, surrounded by geothermal bubbles. Such an experience is not usually possible because of the high temperatures that characterise these kinds of locations, but this Icelandic gem offers the perfect conditions to do it.
The lake is just 30 minutes outside of Reykjavik, but it looks like a completely different planet.
A guide will meet you at noon at the impressive Seltun geothermal area. Here, the boiling mud pots create magnificent scenery with their range of varying colours. From Seltun, your guide will drive you for a few minutes, and then you will take a hike for about 800 meters to reach the black sand beach that marks the shore of the lake.
Here you will get all geared up in top-quality dry suits. After a detailed briefing on what to expect on this tour, you will enter the lake.
As you step into the lake, you will observe the white and yellow sulfur deposits on the lake floor. Swim farther from the shore, and you will start feeling the environment around you begin to change. You will soon spot the gas bubbles coming out of the lake's bed, and you will realise that you are swimming in an actual caldera. This experience has been compared to swimming in a glass of champagne.
Once you've had great fun snorkelling in this bubbly haven, return to dry land and get dry. Here you will enjoy some hot chocolate, cookies and traditional Icelandic snacks before heading back to where we started. You will now have time to explore the Seltun geothermal area before heading on to your resting place for the night.
Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to snorkel in one of Iceland's untouched geothermal pools.
