Ice Cave Tunnel, Helicopter & Super Jeep Tour

This opening in Langjökull glacier leads into the world's only man-made ice tunnel that is accessible to tourists.
A guide welcomes visitors into Langjökull ice cave, showing its many corridors and chambers.
Langjökull glacier, the second largest glacier in Europe, as seen from above.
To reach the ice cave tunnel, modified monster jeeps are required.
This room of the ice tunnel reveals levels of strata, which tell scientists of the volcanism of Iceland's past.

Take flight and witness Europe’s second largest glacier in and out with this helicopter tour over Langjökull. This trip should not be missed by those who are eager to witness Iceland’s landscapes in new and exciting ways.

You will start by meeting your pilot at Reykjavík Domestic Airport, where, after a quick briefing on your route, you will board your helicopter and strap up. After putting on some headphones, you will take to the sky, and have your breath taken as the capital of Iceland unfolds beneath you.

From the sky, you will be able to marvel over the multi-coloured tin roofs beneath you and point out landmarks such as Hallgrímskirkja Church and Harpa Concert Hall. After circling overhead for a few minutes, you will begin to soar towards Langjökull glacier.

En route, you will fly over Þingvellir National Park. This is an incredibly important historic location, yet from the sky, it is the landscapes that are most impressive. This area sits between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, and you will be able to see the edges of both of these as well as the valley in the middle.

Depending on the conditions, you will either land on the pristine white surface of Langjökull or a base camp at the glacier’s foot where you will transfer into a mighty monster truck. Regardless, you will expose yourself to beautiful snowscapes and surrounding landscapes as you approach the ice tunnel.

This is the only ice tunnel in the world carved into a glacier that visitors are welcome to explore. Glacier guides will provide you with crampons, then guide you into the hidden world within an ice cap.

You will learn all about the history and formations of the glaciers as you marvel over the corridors and chambers within it. These include a chapel and a miniature concert hall.

After a thorough exploration, you will return to your helicopter, take to the skies once more, and head back to Reykjavík via a different route over Iceland’s spectacular nature.

Don’t miss this unique way in which to explore Iceland’s nature. Check availability by choosing a date.
