Explore a beautiful ice cave on this winter tour from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. This incredible opportunity should not be missed by any travelling to the south-east of the country between November and March.

The excursion begins at the one of Iceland’s ‘crown jewel’, Jökulsárlón. This glacier lagoon is Iceland’s deepest lake, filled with great icebergs which have broken from a glacial tongue, and home to many seabirds and seals. Your guides will meet you in the carpark where you’ll board a minibus, setting out for Vatnajökull glacier.

After a short drive up the glacier, through snow and ice, you will get out and take an hour-long hike to the ice cave itself, walking through beautiful scenery in the shadow of Europe’s largest glacier.

Once you reach your destination, things will only become more awe-inspiring. The world inside an ice cave feels like it was taken from the pages of fantasy; the colouration, of deep blues and gleaming whites, are stunning, and the textures and formations of the ice are otherworldly.

You’ll spend an hour inside the cave, providing plenty of chances to explore and fill your camera’s memory card. Once you have had your fill, you’ll hike back to the minibus and be driven back to Jökulsárlón. You will then have plenty of time to admire the glacier lagoon and its adjacent Diamond Beach, where the icebergs wash onto the shore.

It should be noted that ice caves are weather dependent, and are only accessible in the freezing cold temperatures of winter when there has not been any rainfall. Check the day before to ensure the tour is going ahead, and if it isn’t, you’ll be able to reschedule for another day.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the ethereal world inside one of Iceland’s ice caves. Check availability by choosing a date.

Nothing less then amazing! The walk was pleasent and informative. Our guide had plenty of time and patience for everyone to get the best out of this experience. We were offered regular stops along the way and in addition we were able to stop at any time to take pictures or just admire the view. The Ice Caves were truly Beautiful. No matter how many pictures or videos you may have seen prior to visiting nothing will prepare you for the actual beauty of what you are about to experience. My main reason for going to Iceland was to see the Northern Lights. I was lucky enough to see them... But in all honesty it was this tour and experience that made my holiday. The lights were amazing but they became an added bonus. In my opinion this tour on its own is a good enough reason to travel to Iceland. It is worth every penny and I'd happily book it again. I've spent more time telling my friends about this tour then I have about any other part of my holiday. I feel privileged to have seen and experienced something so very majestic.
