On this 5-hour tour, you will learn all the skills and techniques necessary to safely and comfortably climb the frozen glacier walls, under the direct supervision of a highly trained and qualified guide. With a maximum group size of 4 people, you are guaranteed plenty of time to test your climbing skills. This activity requires no prior experience, and the guides will make sure that you'll have a safe and memorable time on the ice.
You start the day in Skaftafell National Reserve where you will check in, meet your guide and get equipped with ice climbing equipment. When you are ready, you can take a seat in the mini-bus that will drive you to the glacier, which is only in 25 minutes driving distance away.
Once you are there, your guide will teach you how to use the climbing equipment and find a climbing location suitable to your skill level. It might be a grand wall of ice or a sinkhole in the glacier that you are lowered in. In any case, your guide will find a perfect spot suitable for you.
Once at the glacier, you and the rest of the group will get plenty of time to test your ice climbing skills. During the whole tour, your guide will inform you about the glaciers in Iceland, their effect on the environment, how they were formed and the curious folklore surrounding them in Icelandic culture. They will be happy to answer all your questions about the geology, the culture, or just ice climbing in general.
After everyone has had a go at climbing the ice wall, you and your group will head back to Skaftafell Nature Reserve, filled with exciting memories that will last you a lifetime.
