Experience the exciting sport of ice climbing on Iceland’s most beautiful glaciers and explore an ice cave. This nine-hour private tour is a wonderful way to experience two of the most exciting activities the glaciers of Iceland have to offer.

You’ll begin your tour at a Freysnes gas station on the Icelandic ring road. The route gives you an easy ride to some of the most accessible glacial outlets of the Vatnajokull glacier in the southeast.

The Vatnajokull glacier is the largest ice cap in Europe. This colossal mass covers eight percent of Iceland and has several glacial tongues that are popular worldwide for both novice and experienced ice climbers.

As this is a private tour, the experience will be tailored to your group.

Once you arrive at Falljokull glacier, your instructor will inform you of the safety protocols you must follow during the activity. Their expertise in the field will ensure that you are safe and able to enjoy the tour at all times while still making it a decent challenge for you.

Your instructor will also brief you on the gear you’ll need and the proper way of using them during the climb. You’ll learn how to use ice axes effectively and properly secure a foothold using the crampons on your feet while ascending.

You’ll begin with the essential basic techniques of treading the slippery ice and different scaling techniques such as front-pointing to give you a good grasp of the process. When you’re ready to do some climbing, your instructor will have you start at a relatively easy ice wall.

Once you’re confident in your skills, you’ll slowly progress through the glacial landscape, conquering more challenging terrain. But don’t forget to enjoy the view after every climb, as the frigid scenery around you can only be seen during these icy excursions.

When you've had your fill of climbing, you will head over to the coveted summer ice cave for another breathtaking experience of blue ice.

Along the way, your guide will also make sure to capture the moment for you on camera, making this a truly unforgettable trip. You’ll enjoy posing for action shots and portraits throughout the glacier, giving you several excellent photos to remember the experience.

A week later, 25 of these pictures will be sent to you.

Come and enjoy the unforgettable thrill of scaling the glacial walls of beautiful Iceland, with a new challenge at every turn to satisfy your taste for adventure. Check availability now by choosing a date.
