West Iceland | Sightseeing, Caving and Brewery Visit

West Iceland | Sightseeing, Caving and Brewery Visit
To experience the best that Iceland has to offer, you will have to enter a cave of some description or another.
Hraunfossar's water originates from beneath the lava field, Hallmundarhraun.
Land cruisers have the large tires that are best suited to travelling across Iceland's tricky terrain.
Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls formed through rivulets under a lava field.
Nothing is so rewarding as exploring Iceland to its fullest.
Hraunfossar is best described as a series of little waterfalls collected together, rather than one big feature.

See west Iceland, go lava caving, and visit a brewery on this Super Jeep day tour out of Reyjavík. Don't miss this tour if you want to pack together sightseeing, adventure and culture all into one exciting day trip.

You'll leave from Reykjavík in a Super Jeep and make your way towards one of Iceland’s highest and most austere interior roads, Kaldidalur. You’ll be driving alongside the western part of the Langjökull glacier, pausing to get up close and personal with one of Mother Nature’s finest works. Depending on the time of the year, as well as weather conditions, you may even step up on the glacial surface.

Next, you will head north with a stop at one of this area's lava tube caves. Centuries ago, caves like this once were inhabited by outlaws, and folklore claims that they were the homes of trolls. Helmets and torches will be provided to help you plumb its depths.

Next, you'll arrive at the breathtaking Hraunfossar waterfalls, flowing into the glacial river Hvítá from beneath the moss-covered lava fields.

Leaving here, you’ll pass through the historic site of Reykholt, home of Iceland’s most famous chieftain and historian Snorri Sturluson. Here, Sturluson wrote some of his greatest literature in the age of Sagas before he was murdered near the hot springs that are still used and well preserved.

You'll then visit Deildartunguhver, the largest and most powerful hot spring in Europe. Please head to the warning signs as the spring's boil is to be respected.

Before heading back to Reykjavík, you get to visit one of Iceland's micro-breweries, Steðji. This visit includes a guided tour through the brewery, and you get to taste the delicious products.

Your trip wraps up in Reykjavík, but not before driving alongside the scenic and historic Hvalfjörður fjord.

Don't miss this thorough, in-depth exploration of Iceland's incredible western region. Check availability by choosing a date.
