Day 2 - Snaefellsnes Peninsula I

Day two and your photo tour of the island begins in the stunning peninsula of Snæfellsnes. The varied nature of this area leads to it being referred to as 'Iceland in Miniature' and you will find no shortage of inspiration for your camera.

The haunted, arresting and woolly moss plateau of the Búðahraun lava fields coupled with the quaint hamlet of Búðir will have you snapping away and as you travel along the jagged coastline near Arnarstapi village, you will come across the sea stacks of Lóndrangar as well as the geologically fantastic basalt columns. Then, the national park at Snæfellnes will offer you the opportunity to capture the glacier and volcanic peaks so iconic of this peninsula.

Night time heralds in your first chance to witness the Northern Lights in this magnificent autumnal landscape.

Day 3 - Snaefellsnes Peninsula II

Another day and you will view the peninsula from its northern side where, if weather permits, you should be able to see the glorious peaks of the dramatic Westfjords across the bay.

Looming over the town of Grundarfjörður is the mountain Kirkjufell whose wonderful angles begs some much-deserved camera time. You will have a chance to capture this mountain as well as the nearby waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss, in the glow of the much sought after golden hour.

Day 4 - The South Coast

Leaving Snæfellnes, you will now make your way to the South Coast which is packed with waterfalls tumbling from the tall cliffs of the interior. Your first subject will be Seljalandsfoss, a narrow but thundering cascade of water which you can walk behind to marvel at its power in its entirety.

Skógafoss is your next stop, a powerful water falling in a large sheet resulting in an exhilarating mist guaranteed to stop you in your tracks. On sunny days, you can hope to see a rainbow in this ethereal spray. A staircase next to Skógafoss means you can experience the waterfall from different heights and therefore varied perspectives.

Your last stop of the day will be the infamous black sand beach at Reynisfjara, known for its arresting beauty and aggressive sneaker waves of the Atlantic ocean. This landscape is dominated by the huge basalt columns and the Reynisdrangar sea stacks which, according to Icelandic folklore, are the stony remains of greedy trolls caught in the sunlight.

You will spend your evening in the idyllic settlement at Vík í Mýrdal, a photographer's haven in of itself.
