Description

Grab a front-row seat on this unique day tour along the South Coast with a boat ride around the beautiful Jökulsárón glacial lagoon. Now, you too can get an up-close look at icebergs breaking from Breiðarmerkurjökull glacier, on a trip perfect for all travelling sightseers.

Your trip will begin early in the morning, as you have a lot of ground to cover. You'll travel along Iceland's South Coast, seeing waterfalls and mountains as you go. You'll make a stop at iconic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls before you pass two magnificent glaciers, Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull.

From there, you will visit the Skaftafell National Park by Vatnajökull glacier, nestling under Iceland's tallest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur. You'll be treated to some amazing landscapes on your journey, but your last stop is the very highlight of the tour: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

Created by the glacial melt from Breiðarmerkurjökull, the lagoon is Iceland's deepest lake and filled with incredible icebergs. These bergs range greatly in size and colour; some are small and of the purest white, others have been heavily oxygenated, creating a deep and tantalising blue colour.

Exploring Jökulsárlón by boat is the only real way to get to know the area; not only can you avoid the angry arctic terns that rest at the lagoon’s coast, but you can get right into the middle of the lagoon, experiencing the area from a personal and rare perspective.

You will be within touching distance from the icebergs and you can watch in awe as they shift, move and sink in the crystal clear glacial water, rubbing against one another to create a deep and satisfying rumble. You will also be privy to the seals playing happily together in the water.

After your boat tour, it is possible to walk a short distance to the ocean, where one can often spot the icebergs that have drifted out of the lagoon. This is a truly fantastical vista of black sand, rightfully named the Diamond Beach.

Don’t miss your opportunity to see the wonders of Iceland's South Coast and the icebergs of Jökulsárlón from a unique perspective. Check availability by choosing a date.
