Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to kayak besides the most photographed mountain in Iceland, Kirkjufell, found on the beautiful Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This is an excellent opportunity for both newcomers and experienced kayakers, as well as travellers looking to fit in an element of adventure to their time on Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
The tour is 2 hours in total and 70 min on sea. It will begin at the kayaking base where you will meet your experienced local guide. After some friendly introductions, your guide will provide you with all of the equipment necessary for a fun and safe time on the water. This kit includes a dry suit, a life jacket, shoes and gloves and, of course, a thermal undersuit. Fear not if you are a newcomer to the sport; the operator uses ‘sit-atop’ kayaks, allowing for increased stability.
You will spend a total of seventy minutes on the water, first heading towards “Seal Skerry”, an area of incredible wildlife, including various species of bird and, as the name suggests, some resident seals.
From this location, you will have a fantastic view of Mount Kirkjufell, standing proud and domineering over the landscape. Keen observers of pop culture will recognise Kirkjufell almost immediately as the “mountain like an arrowhead” from HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Leaving “Seal Skerry” behind, you will continue along the shoreline at the mountain’s roots, before making the return journey to the base.
After your tour is over, you are invited to warm up on the kayaking base’s deck with a hot beverage, reflecting over the beautiful experience in which you’ve just partaken. When your time at the base is over, you are free to continue exploring this beautiful region at your leisure.
Don’t miss your chance to discover birdlife, seals, fantastic views and the incredible Mount Kirkjufell, all from the seat of your comfortable kayak. Check availability by choosing a date.
