Description

Discover a new (but historically significant) beverage with this immersive one-hour tour of a meadery in Reykjavik, including complimentary drinks. Book this tour to learn about mead in Iceland, discover how this meadery brews the beverage, and try some for yourself.

The tour begins at the Oldur Meadery in Reykjavik. You'll meet an expert local guide who'll lead you on today's excursion, and they'll check your ID to ensure you're over the age of 20. The legal drinking age in Iceland is 20, the minimum age to participate.

Once everyone has arrived and is ready to go, the guide will lead your group into the meadery to begin. Then it's time to learn about the history of mead in Iceland. Oldur is the first and only meadery in the country, but the drink remains important in Icelandic culture.

Many Vikings drank mead, and you'll learn if and when they brought the drink to Iceland during their explorations. You'll also learn more about how to make it.

The Oldur Meadery is owned and operated by Sigurjon Fridrik Gardarsson and Helgi Thorir Sveinsson. They opened the meadery in 2017 after successfully producing delicious home-brewed beers for several years.

Both have extensive experience in brewing, and they decided to learn to make mead together to reintroduce this historic beverage to Iceland. You'll learn all about the mead-making process and will see the equipment used to ferment the product.

After exploring the production area of the meadery, make the most of the opportunity to try at least three different types of mead. The brewers produce several styles of mead, and the tasting session will let you discover how different the drink can taste depending on how it's made.

At the end of the tour, you're welcome to stay in the meadery. It's a brilliant place to enjoy another couple of drinks, and you can also purchase mead to take away with you and drink during the rest of your trip to Iceland.

Thanks to the meadery's convenient location in central Reykjavik, you can spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying other sightseeing adventures. The meadery is also close to public transportation options like bus stops, so you can easily reach your accommodation from here.

Learn everything you need to know about the history of mead and how it's made on this one-hour tour of the only meadery in Iceland — and enjoy complimentary drinks while you learn. Check availability now by choosing a date.
