Join this extensive tour where you’ll get to discover the unspoilt Icelandic countryside on the back of a horse. Ride past mountains, forests, and geothermal areas on this immersive day tour, suited for experienced riders visiting Iceland.
The tour starts bright and early in the morning. You will be picked up in Reykjavík and driven south, to the municipality of Ölfus, where you will find the stables. Once there, you will meet both the tour guide and the horses, as well as be given all riding gear for your journey.
On this immersive tour, you will be spending about 4 to 5 hours in the saddle, so the professional guides will do their best to match you up with a horse that suits your character and experience.
One of the Icelandic horse's most notable attributes is its five gaits, and due to the long distance of this tour, you’ll be able to experience four of them: walk, trot, the unique tölt, and gallop. Because of this, a medium or expert level of horse riding skill is required for this tour.
Once you’ve mounted your steed, your journey begins. You will ride along the rocky and rugged terrain of Ingólfsfjall mountain, through a pine forest and blue lupine meadows until you reach Reykjamóri, a natural mud spring area, where you will take a short break.
You’ll get to wander around the area, take some amazing photos and get some knowledge of the Icelandic horse and its history from your guides. You’ll then saddle up again and continue your adventure.
You’ll get to cross the wild river Gljúfurá on your steed en route to Arnabæli farm where you’ll take another break. There you can snap some more photos, this time of the breathtaking scenery of central Ölfus. You will then head on back to the stable where you will be offered coffee,
