Description

Explore the most scenic mountains and villages of North Iceland on this private sightseeing tour of the Arctic coastline and Trollaskagi peninsula. Travelers who want to learn more about Iceland's rich culture and diverse landscapes, with the convenience of a private tour, should book this experience.

Your six-hour trip in Iceland begins in the town of Akureyri, 240 miles (387 kilometers) from Reykjavik. Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel or at the Akureyri Airport upon request. From here, you’ll journey into the beautiful coastline of North Iceland on board a cozy vehicle that can accommodate up to seven people.

As you depart from Akureyri, you’ll drive along the longest fjord in Iceland, Eyjafjordur. This Icelandic fjord measures 47 miles (70 kilometers) and is home to some stunning cliffs, picturesque mountains, and many marine species by the Atlantic ocean.

On the western side of the fjord lies the breathtaking Trollaskagi, also known as the Troll peninsula. Trollaskagi boasts some of the most dramatic landscapes in Iceland, from towering mountain peaks to lush river valleys. Outside the Highlands region, the mountains in the peninsula are the tallest in the country, with one even reaching 4921 feet (1500 meters).

These picture-perfect natural sceneries are amazing to see up close, so don’t forget to take out your camera to preserve your experience.

Part of your sightseeing tour is visiting the charming villages dotting the peninsula and the fjord. These localities have a unique culture and deep history that you’ll learn more about from your friendly tour guide.

Dalvik and Olafsfjordur are two notable fishing villages you’ll explore on your private tour of the Arctic coastline. These two seaside villages used to be the top fishing ports for herring in the last century. Although the herring is gone, both still rely on fishing and tourism.

As you drive further north, you’ll reach the village of Siglufjordur, the northernmost town of Iceland. Siglufjordur is famous for its award-winning Herring Era Museum, open during summer. In popular culture, you may recognize the village as a filming location for the 2015 TV series Trapped.

On your way back to Akureyri, you’ll make a final stop at Hauganes, a coastal village of 140 people. The peaceful village had sheltered farmers from the harsh sea currents in the past, although it wasn’t until the late 19th century that the first wooden house was built here.

While staying at Hauganes, you’ll have the chance to dip in the hot tubs by the black sand beach. To complete your experience, try soaking in the seawater if you’re up for the colder temperature.

To end your tour on a high note, you’ll have a delicious meal at a local bar and restaurant in Hauganes.

Discover the snow-capped mountains of the Trollaskagi peninsula and the villages along the Eyjafjordur fjord when you book this six-hour private tour from Akureyri. Check availability now by choosing a date.
