Description

Come join us on this private tour and experience the beauty of Snæfellsnes, often referred to as “Iceland in a nutshell.” Lava fields, mountain peaks, black and yellow beaches, lighthouses, picturesque little fishing villages, wooden churches, waterfalls, cliffs and wildlife - Snæfellsnes peninsula offers it all and much more.

You will be picked up from your accommodations in Reykjavik and driven north to Gerðuberg, a monumental 15-meter-tall basalt wall, created by the ocean's cooling of flowing basaltic lava.

The next highlight of the tour will be meeting seals at the Ytri-Tunga beach, which is one of the best seal-spotting locales in West Iceland. Snæfellsnes is also a perfect place for bird and whale-watching.

After Ytri-Tunga, our next stop will be the church at Búðir. It is one of the few black wooden churches in Iceland, as well as one of the most popular photo locations among photographers and Instagrammers.

Next, we will continue driving along the diverse coastline of the peninsula and discovering popular tourist attractions as well as the hidden gems.

Before we reach the tip of the peninsula and Snaefellsjokull National Park, we will visit the charming fishing village of Arnarstapi where we will have a walk along the volcanic coast and observe waves crashing onto basalt rocks abundant in bird life.

We can also take some more time at this beautiful location and have a short walk on the path between mossy lava fields that connects Arnarstapi and Hellnar.

From here we will be beginning to notice the majestic silhouette of the Snæfellsjökull glacier-volcano that gained worldwide fame when Jules Verne described it in his book 'Journey to the Center of the Earth.'

Our next stops will be at the beautiful black beaches in Djúpalónssandur, situated at the foot of Snæfellsjökull, and the fabulous Lóndrangar sea cliffs, from where we will be able to take an even closer look at this magical volcano.

Snæfellsnes is also abundant in volcanic craters. On this trip, we will visit Saxhóll, which is approximately 100 meters high, and a perfect spot for everybody who likes short hikes. From here you will also have a fantastic view of the ocean.

Next up is one of the top attractions of this tour and the most photographed mountain in Iceland: Kirkjufell. Though already renowned as a beautifully unique part of the Icelandic landscape, this mountain achieved even greater fame in 2017 after being featured in the last season of the Game of Thrones HBO TV Series.

Make sure you also walk to Kirkjufellsfoss to take the iconic photograph of the waterfall with the church mountain in the background.

If we are lucky enough with the forecast, we will try to hunt for the northern lights on the way back to Reykjavík (September - April only).

Don't delay—hop on this fantastic excursion and experience all that the mystical Snæfellsnes peninsula has to offer!

Good to know

The weather in Iceland can be quite unpredictable. Occasionally, especially during winter, the tour itinerary might be altered if weather and road conditions are unfavorable.

In the winter (November to February), due to limited daylight hours in Iceland, much driving will be done in the dark. While we do our best to make sure you have a great experience at the main attractions, some sites might be visited in dusk or darkness, or even skipped.
