Description

Come and shop around in Reykjavík in the company of a local shopping assistant. This shopping tour is perfect for those who want to browse the stores while getting to know a little more about Reykjavik at the same time.

The tour starts in Reykjavik city center where your guide will meet you. Throughout the trip, your guide gives a commentary about the early trade in Iceland, the history of Reykjavik, information about Iceland's population, urban development, and shopping in modern times. He will also assist with information on tax-free reimbursement and discounts offered on purchases.

The first stop is Reykjavík's oldest shopping street: Laugavegur. For a long time, this was the city's trendiest street for shopping and café culture as well as a place where artists resided and lived. After Kringlan was constructed in 1987 most everyday shopping moved to Kringlan, leaving Laugavegurinn open for design, small boutiques and curiosity shops.

First, we visit the Gilbert the watchmaker. The smallest watchmaker in the world who produces and sells the only designer watch sold in a single store in the whole world and worn by the likes of Yoko Ono, Ben Stiller, and the Dalai Lama.

Further up Laugvegurinn is a health store that sells Icelandic organic food. There is also a music store that sells CDs and vinyl with Icelandic popular music, and a Christmas shop open all year.

Walking up Skólavörðustígur towards Hallgrímskirkjan church is Reykjavik's oldest café, Mokka, where you could stop for a cuppa and get a glimpse of the Icelandic art scene.  Of course, no Icelandic shopping spree is truly over without a visit to the Hand Knitting Association for a traditional, certified granny-made Lopapeysa woolen sweater.

With transportation included we transfer to Kringlan shopping mall or Smáralind shopping mall.  Your guide will tell you about which Icelandic produces and goods available in the shopping malls and where to get the best deals on everything from food to designer products. You could opt to visit some of the brands of Icelandic outdoor clothing, such as 66 North, Cintamani, Icewear and Don Cano.

In the supermarkets, the unique Icelandic food products that can be purchased are dilled and smoked salmon and dried fish (Icelandic fish jerky). The guide gives additional commentary on Icelandic foods and milk products such as skyr. There is also a large selection of jewelry designers to visit, as well as international chains, such as H&M and Zara.

After the mall visit, a special request for lunch can be made, and we offer anything from sandwiches, snacks, sushi, or arrange a restaurant visit that suits your tastes. Please contact us if you have specific requests for lunch.

After a day of exploration, it is time to head home with all your shopping bags. Don't miss this opportunity to get a city tour and a guided shopping trip all in one. Check availability by choosing a date.
