Description

Hop aboard, and take a journey onto the seas of Iceland to see its incredible resident animals. This convenient whale watch from Reykjavík should appeal to anyone with a passion for nature and wildlife.

Throughout summer, Iceland boasts over twenty species of whale, dolphin and porpoise in its coastal waters. All year long, white beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and the occasional orca can be discovered, but during the warm feeding season, the giants return. Minke and Humpback Whales are most common outside the capital, in the bay of Faxaflói, but the largest animals that have ever lived, Blue and Fin Whales, are also rare visitors.

Whale watching from Reykjavík also provides you with opportunities to see an array of other animal species. You might spot seels, sea eagles, and a range of other seabirds, and from May to September, puffins are often founding bobbing on the water’s surface. In the warmest months, Basking Sharks have even been seen.

Taking this whale watch for your chance to see these amazing creatures could not be easier; you simply exchange your voucher for a ticket at the city’s Old Harbour, and board the waiting vessel for departure.

On board is a cafe, a range of educational materials, warm overalls, an indoor seating area and large viewing platforms. Experts are present to tell you all about the animals regularly seen, and will, of course, be on hand to help point them out to you.

While waiting for a whale to break the surface, the surrounding nature could not be a better distraction. In clear weather, you’ll see the flat topped Mount Esjan, the volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula, and the verdant fjord of Hvalfjörður. Of course, as you depart and return, you’ll also get a great view of Reykjavík’s skyline and landmarks. If, by any chance, no whales, dolphins or porpoises show throughout the tour, you will be able to try again at your convenience without charge.

Don’t miss your chance to marvel over the beautiful animals of Faxaflói Bay. Check availability by choosing a date.
