Description

Come to see the wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula over a day by booking this bus tour. This stretch has the nickname ‘Iceland in Miniature’, due to the wealth of different sites and landscapes found along it.

You’ll be picked up in the morning from Reykjavík, and immediately set off north, through the stunning landscapes of the west. After a stop for refreshments in the historic, picturesque town of Borgarnes, you will move on to your first destination, the basalt cliff of Gerðuberg, which is lined with bizarre, perfectly uniform hexagonal columns. This is the perfect introduction to the geological beauty of Snæfellsnes.

After this, you will travel along the Peninsula’s southern coastline, seeing stunning beaches and dramatic rock formations. These culminate at the Lóndrangar basalt plugs, two towering pinnacles so great that from a distance, they resemble a fortress.

The birdlife here - and across the rest of the Peninsula - is extraordinary. Those with a fascination with wildlife should also keep a keep eye on the shores and seas in hope of seeing seals. It is also not unheard of to see orcas off the coast of Snæfellsnes.

You’ll then see the fishing villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar, before moving into the Snæfellsjökull National Park. This area is named after the Peninsula’s crowning subglacial volcano, the stunning Snæfellsjökull. The twin peaks of this beautiful feature became famous in Jules Verne’s novel, ‘A Journey to the Centre of the Earth’.

You’ll return back to Reykjavík via the northern side of Snæfellsnes. The most dominant and spectacular feature here is Mount Kirkjufell, a standalone peak that towers over the waves of the Atlantic, but the whole area is beautiful, with fascinating coastal views and geological formations.

Don’t miss your chance to see this fabulous part of Iceland, to witness mountains, glaciers, lava fields, volcanoes, beaches and much more. Check availability by choosing a date.
