Set out on a fantastic guided excursion around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula to marvel over a diverse range of landscapes, beautiful wildlife, and some fascinating examples of Iceland’s culture. Any seeking a day of easy yet rewarding sightseeing will find this to be an unforgettable experience.

You’ll be picked up by a friendly local guide in a minibus on the morning of your excursion at a meeting point close to your hotel. Once your small group is gathered, you’ll set out through the charming countryside of west Iceland en route to Snaefellsnes. You will conduct your exploration around the peninsula anti-clockwise to avoid the main direction of the tourists, allowing you to enjoy the sites without the crowds - particularly appealing for photographers.

Your first major attraction is a hidden gem most overlook, the small but magical waterfall of Selvallafoss. If you are lucky with the conditions, you might be able to walk around the waterfall, and in summer, you may find a herd of sheep sheltering in the cliffs beneath it. You’ll then cross the haunting, historic lava field of Berserkjahraun to reach the region's largest settlement, Stykkisholmur, which is steeped in fishing culture and folklore.

Following an exploration of this large village, you’ll head to one of the most famous attractions in all of Iceland, Kirkjufell mountain. Featured in Game of Thrones as ‘the arrowhead mountain,’ this site is impressive due to its standalone location, adjacent waterfall, and surrounding coastline.

Next, you will enter Snaefellsjokull National Park, home to the mighty Snaefellsjokull subglacial volcano. Though visible from many sites, you’ll get to marvel at its gleaming white slopes and twin peaks up close as you explore its closest attractions. One of the best of these is the Saxholl crater, which you will walk up for some magnificent panoramas; another is the black sand beach of Djupalonssandur, where you can also test your strength on historic lifting stones.

The charming village of Arnarstapi is your next stop, where you’ll get to admire more coastal beauty before you exit the national park and begin to sightsee along the southern shore. This route contains breathtaking sites right by the road, such as the cliffside cleft of Raudfeldsgja and basalt plug of Londrangar; your final stop, however, will be Ytri Tunga beach, which is renowned for its year-round seal colonies.

After enjoying the sight of them relaxing and playing, you’ll return to Reykjavik.

Spend a full day in Iceland, marveling over the most significant sites of the scenic Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Check availability by choosing a date.
