Get ready for an adventure where you spend a full day hiking on Sólheimajökull glacier. Here, you get to spend the whole day exploring Iceland's most famous outlet glacier in a small-group setting of maximum eight people. You will go higher on the glacier than any other group that day, and you get to forge your own unique trail through the impressive terrain of Sólheimajökull glacier.

You start the day in the morning at the Sólheimajökull parking area where you will meet your expert glacier guide and receive your glacier gear - crampons, helmets, and harnesses. Please be ready 20 minutes before departure and note that the drive to Sólheimajökull from Reykjavík takes approximately 2.5 hours. 

After a 15-minute walk to the glacier, your guide will give you a safety briefing and teach you how to use the glacier equipment. When you are all set, it's time to hit the ice. Your guide will lead you through ash covered peaks - the aftermath of past volcanic eruptions - until you reach the blue and white plateau of the glacier.

After showing your around the most impressive features of this area, your guide will lead you even further, far away from other groups on the ice. You will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the whole glacier and down to the Atlantic Ocean. You might ford crevasses, using a rope to travel, or climb and abseil down ice walls, all depending on the conditions of the ice that day.

At some point during your tour, you will stop for lunch, which we recommend that you bring along. There's plenty of fresh water on the glacier, possibly the purest you will ever taste.

You will spend approximately six hours on the ice before heading back to the base at Sólheimajökull parking lot. After completing the tour, you can proudly say that you have fully experienced the glacier.

    Please note that the meeting point for the tour is at Sólheimajökull parking area, 20 min. prior to departure. The drive from Reykjavík is approximately 2,5 hours so you will need a bus transport or a rental car to get to the meeting point.
