This is your chance to go on a glacier hike and explore a newly discovered and mindblowing Blue Ice Cave. This tour is perfect for those who would like to combine two of the most popular activities for those travelling to Iceland.

Your tour will take you to Sólheimajökull glacier, with its mysterious backdrop of volcanic ash and glacial ice, just a 158km drive from the capital of Reykjavík, right next to the main road.

Your day will begin where you meet your guide at the glacier hike parking lot. Here you will be set up will all necessary equipment; a helmet, crampons and an ice axe. You will then hike the stunning Sólheimajökull glacier. The experience of standing on top of centuries-old ice is second to none. The impressive views that surround you during your hike will make you feel like an arctic explorer.

After around 1 and half hour glacier hike, you will reach the entrance to a completely different world, an ice cave. Hidden beneath this glacier is a natural ice cave. Ice caves form during the regular melt and freeze cycles throughout the year. They are incredibly beautiful and unique. No two ice caves are ever the same; they are as unique as fingerprints.

The clear, sparkling diamond walls and ceiling create quite a fairytale experience for the senses. Even though the ice of the cave is hundreds of metres thick, it is almost as transparent as glass. When the light hits the cave, it is filled with shades of azure and cyan blue. The imagery from inside an ice cave is magical. Along with the sparkling blues, the ice is almost marbled with black and grey from volcanic ash, almost making it seem like an ice cathedral.

Your expert guide will be able to teach you about how these natural wonders are formed and help you to take those important photos. You will then make your way out of the cave and back along Sólheimajökull Glacier towards the parking lot. You will have seen and taken part in things that so many people only ever dream of.

Don’t miss the chance to tick these two things off your Icelandic bucket list. Pick a date to check availability.
