South Coast - Glaciers, Waterfalls and Black Sand Beaches

Seljalandsfoss is just one of the waterfalls in Iceland where you can walk behind the falling water.
Basalt column rock formations on the black sand beach, Reynisfjara.
One of the gorgeous glaciers along the South Coast of Iceland.
The black sand beach, Reynisfjara, known for its dangerous and unpredictable 'sleeper' waves.
Folklore dictates that an ancient troll once hid his treasure chest behind Skogafoss.
Those at Reynisfjara are warned not to paddle in the water, given the strong undercurrents and large waves.

This tour will take you to waterfalls, an outlet glacier and black sand beach.

We will visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall which is 60 m high and flowing off a cliff near Eyjafjallajökull volcano. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall, which gives an extra thrill to the visit. Nearby is Gljúfrabúi, which we will also visit.

Skógafoss is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is also 60 m high and about 25 m wide. Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are both in glacier rivers, meltwater from Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Eyjafjallajökull is now famous for it 2010 volcanic eruption that disrupted air traffic in Europe.

Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier, flowing out of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull. Underneath Mýrdalsjökull is the famous volcano Katla. Glaciers are retreating and disappearing around us on an unprecedented rate. It is predicted that in few decades the glaciers will all be gone here. Enjoy with us the amazing landscape of the glacier.

Iceland is a volcanic island, made up mainly of basaltic material that is black in color. Hence, the "Black Beaches". The Reynisfjara black beach was, in 1991, ranked as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world. On the beach there are remarkable basalt columns. Reynisdrangar is a seastack, a geological formation made by wave erosion of surrounding material.

We arrive in Reykjavík in late evening.
