Join this perfect day of sightseeing on the South Coast of Iceland. This excursion should not be missed by those eager to witness the waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and coastline of this amazing country.

After leaving Reykjavík in the morning, you’ll travel along Route 1 to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, your first stop on this tour. Fed by meltwater from the notorious glacier and volcano Eyjafjallajökull, it pours off a sixty-metre tall cliff. Seljalandsfoss is unique because you can fully encircle it in summer.

Skógafoss, the next waterfall along the road, is the same height, much more classic in its formation, and much more powerful. Many birds nest in the cliffs around it.

After enjoying these features, you will continue to the black-sand-beach Reynisfjara. This is a beautiful stretch of coastline, although you must be cautious of the waves, as they are very unpredictable. Apart from the unusual, otherworldly sands, Reynisfjara is well-known for its sea stacks. Rising tall from the water near the edge of a cliff, you can see the twin peaks of Reynisdrangar.

You will have a quick stop in Vík, the southernmost village in Iceland, before heading back along Route 1. You will not return to Reykjavík immediately, however. First, you will go to the glacier tongue Sólheimajökull, which descends from Iceland’s third largest glacier, Mýrdalsjökull.

Mýrdalsjökull is sat beside Eyjafjallajökull and conceals an even more dangerous volcano, Katla. Evidence from the eruptions of both of these can be seen in the ice of Sólheimajökull, which is veined with layers of black ash. This contrasts beautifully with the white and blues in the snow.

After a walk around the glacier tongue and lagoon, you’ll return to your minibus, and be whisked back to the capital of Reykjavík.

Witness waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes and coastal phenomena on this day tour of the South Coast. Check availability by choosing a date.

Good to know:

The weather changes quickly in Iceland, so don't be caught unawares. It is always a good idea to bring a sweater or wear layers which you can remove if you get too warm.

This tour is a fun and easy way to see the south coast! Our guide was very entertaining and offered interesting stories/facts during the long drive. Each stop had ample time to view the attraction. It is a long walk to see the glacier, so being mobile and having good shoes are important. Warm clothing is a must as the beach can get pretty cold. A poncho or change of clothes may also be necessary if one ventures too close to the waterfalls.
