Bag your place on this exciting tour exploring the many magnificent attractions of Þórsmörk Valley, one of the most ruggedly beautiful regions in the country. This is the perfect tour option for those visitors who hope to see Iceland's more hidden areas, as well as those looking to hike some truly wild trails.
Þórsmörk is a stunning and picturesque valley which takes its name from the Old Norse God of Thunder, Þór. Due to its lack of development, its atmospheric quietude and dramatic natural scenery, Þórsmörk is still one of the Icelanders' favourite places to go when they want to unwind from the daily grind. In the summertime, Þórsmörk is accessible to all visitors with a 4X4 vehicle.
The first stop of your day is at one of Iceland’s loveliest waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss, boasting a drop of 60 m. Here, the sure-footed can walk behind the thundering cascade, thus gaining a new and often unforeseen perspective of this natural feature. Be warned as the trails are narrow and a bit slippery. Extra caution is especially needed during the winter and good footwear is recommended.
Next, it is on to a spectacular hidden canyon rich with unique flora, green moss and a beautiful waterfall. Depending on conditions, we will either be making a stop at Gljúfrabúi waterfall or Nauthúsagil canyon.
Then it’s time for you to head to Gigjökull glacier tongue. The driver will deflate the tires for some serious jeep action, including splashing through glacier rivers, so fasten your seatbelts, keep your windows closed and experience the fun!
Gígjökull is one of 2 glacier outlets from Eyjafjallajökull, the site of the infamous volcanic eruption in 2010. During the eruption, millions of litres of melted ice from Eyjafjallajökull came bursting down the mountainside causing massive destructive floods on its way to the Atlantic and changed the scenery for years to come. You will be able to see these changes as we drive across the surrounding landscape.
Our final stop is in Básar, one of the most beautiful spots in Þórsmörk, where you can take a short hike around the area. It’s uniquely located between three glaciers, Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and Tindafjallajökull.
So don't hesitate any longer! Hurry now so you too can experience the many natural wonders of Þórsmörk Valley. Check availability by choosing a date.
There is a chance your feet might get wet during this tour so please wear good shoes if you intend to go near the waterfalls
