Description

Marvel at the beauty of Thorsmork Nature Reserve inside a super jeep and discover its many secrets. This seven-hour, small-group guided tour brings you right to the heart of one of the most treasured places of many Icelanders.

This thrilling tour begins when a big and comfortable super jeep picks you up in Thorsmork. You will then drive along smooth and uneven roads regular cars can’t go through. You’ll also see Thorsmork’s majestic landscapes as you go uphill or downhill.

Translated as “Valley of Thor” in English, Thorsmork’s is home to many of Iceland’s most incredible natural wonders. Thorsmork is in a valley nestled by three glaciers: Myrdalsjokull, Tindfjallajokull, and Eyjafjallajokull.

Interestingly, Eyjafjallajokull made the headlines when it erupted in 2010. The eruption caused major air travel disruptions, affecting over 100,000 flights and about seven million passengers for an entire week.

With many stories about Iceland, an experienced guide will share essential details about different spots. Your guide will navigate the super jeep across the bumpy trails, rivers, and creeks.

However, riding a super jeep is only part of this adventure. The tour also involves some hiking, so you better bring a trusty pair of hiking boots, warm clothing, and a water bottle. Also, a light lunch will be provided.

The tour lets you appreciate Gigjokull, one of Eyjafjallajokull’s two glacier outlets, and Tindfjallajokull, the second of the three main glaciers surrounding Thorsmork.

The super jeep then takes you outside the Thorsmork Nature Reserve for an important stop at Seljalandsfoss, a famous waterfall known for its impressive natural features. Seljalandsfoss boasts a drop of 200 feet (60 meters), which is already a sight.

But Seljalandsfoss’ most distinguishing feature is the pathway stretching around it. This pathway allows visitors to circle the waterfall - a feature that few waterfalls in the world offer.

The super jeep tour also takes you to Stakkholtsgja, one of the most remarkable canyons in South Iceland. The canyon is around 328 feet (100 meters) deep and 1.2 miles (two kilometers) long. You can hike through Stakkholtsgja until you reach a picturesque waterfall.

Hiking through Stakkholtsgja and back takes about an hour and a half to finish. However, the pathways are relatively flat despite not being paved.

After all the hiking and exploring, the super jeep will take you back to the initial pick-up location.

Don’t miss this chance to experience some of Iceland’s most amazing natural wonders. Check availability now by choosing a date.
