Witness the versatile wonders of the South Coast on this private super jeep excursion, visiting the mountain ridge Þórsmörk and hiking through the great canyon Stakkholtsgjá. If you’re looking for a personal sightseeing experience in the land of ice and fire, this is the adventure for you.

Your journey begins with a pickup in Reykjavík City, where you’ll meet and greet your local guide and board your super jeep with the rest of your small group of travel companions. If your team exceeds five people, you can upgrade to a larger vehicle, guaranteeing you and your friends, or family, a personal and intimate South Coast excursion.

Then, you’ll begin your drive along this incredibly scenic coastline, until reaching the mountain ridge Þórsmörk, a lush oasis of a valley that rests between the three glaciers Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull and Tindafjallajökull. These magnificent ice caps not only give the area a panoramic scenery of stunning natural beauty but provide a shelter, giving the valley its own weather system.

Then, you’ll continue to the famous waterfall Seljalandsfoss, made all the more singular in that it boasts a cave behind it, which is accessible during the summer months, giving hikers the opportunity of looking out its curtain of water at the lush coastal scenery.

After admiring the falls, you drive onwards to Gígjökull Glacier, wading across a former glacier lagoon that the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull wiped out. You will then enjoy a short hike to the foot of the glacier, taking in the breathtaking landscape.

Then, you will make your way to Stakkholtsjá and embark on a hike to the bottom of this ethereal canyon. After making your way back to the vehicle, you’ll head on to the campsite Básar to stretch your legs before returning to Reykjavík City.

Secure your spot now on this private super jeep adventure, exploring both the highlights and hidden gems of the South Coast of Iceland, hiking through incredible wilderness along the way. Check availability by choosing a date.

I went on this tour on the 18th July 2018 and I can only say I was thoroughly disappointed. There were many aspects of the tour that fell way below my expectations: 1) The biggest one of all was the amount of knowledge/information the tour guide shared. The only time he shared information was at the glacier and at the coastal settlement, each lasting about 5 minutes at most. He was quiet for the rest of the trip (including the car rides and hike) and I had to even ask him questions to get him to share. He would give a cordial response but it was always short and didn’t bother elaborating further. At ine point, I had to even tell him to share more about Iceland with us and he said he didn’t know much and just told us a story about the 2 Viking brothers. Honestly, he felt more like a driver rather than a guide, which I could have already done myself since I’ve rented a 4x4. 2) During the thorsmork hike, he would hike ahead, far in front from all of us instead of walking with us and it felt so rushed. My parents who are elderly struggled to keep up and he did not bother pacing with them. 3) This is the tour description. “Then, you will make your way to Stakkholtsjá and embark on a hike to the bottom of this ethereal canyon” The tour description made it sound like we were going to hike to the end of the Stakkholtsjá canyon but he told us to go 200m, take a few quick photos and to come back out as the hike will take too long. We were there for about 10 minutes only. 4) Lastly, the tour ended an hour early and that is including the longer route that he took to show us the costal settlement which added 30mins to the return journey. Whilst I appreciate some insight into the costal homes, I would very much prefer to have spent that extra time doing something that was actually described on the website. In total, there could have been 1.5 hours (30mins from costal settlement and 1 hour ending early) to do the hike to the bottom of the canyon. Guidetoiceland looks like a legitimate company and I would have expected that the tours they put on their website would have been properly vetted. For a premium private tour, it missed my expectations by a huge margin and I feel cheated of my money. Honest to god, this is the worst tour I’ve had. Regardless, I must say that he was accommodating to our requests and he was never rude. He is just a terrible tour guide and I was over promised by the descriptions on the website.
