Eco-Friendly 5 Hour Small Group Glacier Base Hike on Snaefellsjokull with Transfer from Arnarstapi
As we hike on the mountainside of Snæfell, we wander through a landscape shaped by the retreating glacier Snæfellsjökull, a landscape born 700,000 years ago from the turbulent eruptions of a volcano that lies sleeping just under our feet. This sustainable experience offers beginner and intermediate hikers the chance to raise their heartbeat in time with nature, taste Icelandic mountain life and of course create unrivaled memories as the mighty Snæfellsjökull glacier towers above and the view of the Snæfellsnes peninsula stretches to the horizon.
As we hike in just a small group, our well experienced and knowledgeable guides will tell you about the area, its geology, nature and the importance of taking time to experience our wilderness with as little impact as possible. With such excellent views, there will of course be time to breathe it all in, take stunning photos and have lots of fun. If there is snow on the mountain, we have a fun selection of sleds for you to slide downhill (no matter if you are a child or an adult) and in the summer (May-September) you can even rent bikes from us to ride the slope downhill! Near the base of our hike, we also visit the famous singing cave Songhellir where you can stretch those vocal chords and burst into song!
We value our nature greatly and by participating in an eco-friendly tour you are not just gaining an incredible experience but also supporting a sustainable change in Icelandic tourism so that the countries wildness and wonder can be shared for all generations to come. To neutralize our carbon footprint, we keep our use of vehicles to a minimum and a percentage of your tour fee is contributed to the Kolvidur Icelandic carbon fund to aid in Icelandic reforestation. With the Gold award from Iceland´s environmental authority (Vakinn) and the certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, we are proud to offer the best experience whilst making a minimal environmental impact!
