Exciting 4.5 Hour Horse Riding Tour near Hekla Volcano with Lunch with Transfer from Skeidvellir

Experience the thrill of riding an Icelandic horse in the area beneath the mighty volcano, Hekla. This is an excellent opportunity for the experienced horse riders, looking to discover a beautiful and unique region of the Icelandic countryside.

Beginning your tour at the farm, Skeiðvellir, you will be introduced to your experienced guide who will proceed to brief you on the day’s events, as well as hand out all equipment necessary for the tour. You will then be taken to the farm’s riding hall where you are matched with your very own Icelandic horse for the day, and has the chance to try out the match. 

Brought over by this island’s earliest settlers, the Icelandic horse is one of the most isolated and purebred breeds on earth. Despite their diminutive, pony-like size, Icelandic horses are renown for their strength and stamina. They are also one of the only horse breeds on earth that is capable of five unique gaits. You will experience some of these speciel gaits during your tour. 

After trying out your horse, you will be driven approximately twenty minutes away to the old lava fields around Hekla. From here, you will then follow the beautiful river Rangá through lush meadows, some of which are filled with grazing horses.

At certain points, there will be breaks both for photos, appreciation of the environment and of course a spot to enjoy the lunch. A lunch box containing a sandwich, sweet snack and drink is included as part of the tour, and vegetarian options are available if requested beforehand. 

At the end of the tour, you arrive back to the farm where you can enjoy a hot drink and talk about your recent adventures. Photographs taken of you throughout the experience will be sent to you by email at a later date.
