Seltjarnarnes is just three kilometres from downtown Reykjavík, yet it feels like a world away, with its splendid coastline, a wealth of birdlife, and serene natural areas.
The tour begins at the at Reykjavík City Hall. Your guide will meet you there, and together you will take the public bus to Seltjarnarnes; this is an eco-friendly excursion, and the ticket is included in the price. During the short ride to the starting point, your guide will brief you about the tour ahead.
Your hike will concentrate on the region's highlights. The most well-known of these is the Grótta lighthouse, from which you can capture amazing natural panoramas. Close by Grótta is Iceland’s smallest hot pool, 'Kvika', where you are welcome to bathe your feet and breathe the fresh sea air.
You will then take the wild, Atlantic coastal path to Seltjarnarnes's picturesque nature reserve. The hike is approximately six kilometres and takes three hours in total, and leads to a beautiful location with a wealth of birdlife and fantastic ocean and mountain views. While here, you will have plenty of time for silent contemplation.
You will also have the opportunity to sample some Icelandic delicacies such as the fermented shark, Hákarl, classic Kleina doughnuts and a shot of 'Black Death', the national spirit otherwise known as Brennivín. This tour always ends with a scoop of delicious ice cream at a local cafe.
To add to your enjoyment, this is a very small group experience, with a maximum of 10 people. For those heading back to Reykjavík, the bus stop is right outside. Alternatively, you can stay longer and visit the fantastic local swimming pool (remember to bring swimwear), or have lunch/supper at the cafe.

The walking is mostly on good, level paths. Some sections could be over more uneven ground or on sandy/stony beaches. Your guide will ensure everyone is safe and happy.
The guide may or may not accompany the group back to Reykjavík City Hall. They will ensure that everyone has a bus ticket and has exact instructions.
