Description

Explore ‘Iceland in Miniature,’ the incredible Snaefellsnes Peninsula, on this thrilling sightseeing tour from Reykjavik. Those looking to see examples of all the features that make this country unique will find their trip here incredibly rewarding.

You and your group will be picked up early in the day by your friendly guide, who will escort you north to your incredible destination. Unlike most travelers, you will take the sightseeing route in an anti-clockwise direction to miss the majority of the crowds and allow you to enjoy the amazing sites in more peace.

The first stop you will make will be at the lava field of Berserkjarhraun. Not only is the moss-coated basalt here hauntingly beautiful, but you’ll learn all about the dark history of how the road across the inhospitable terrain was created.

Next, you’ll reach Kirkjufell, a pyramid-shaped, standalone mountain that towers over the coast. Famed for its beauty and its title as the country’s most photographed peak, it is increasingly renowned for how it was featured in Game of Thrones.

After marveling over this attraction, you’ll head to Saxholl Crater, a 3,000-year-old feature you can ascend for some stunning views.

With the peninsula’s northern shore explored, you will enter Snaefellsjokull National Park, a spectacular place named after its central subglacial volcano. You’ll have marvelous views of this as you walk along the black sands of the beautiful beach of Djupalonssandur and through the charming village of Arnarstapi, where you can also find places for lunch.

You’ll then move onto the south side of the peninsula, where two more stops await. En route, however, there will be plenty more to look at, as you’ll pass the Londrangar sea stacks, the Raudfeldsgja gorge, and the Gerduberg basalt columns.

The first of your two remaining stops is the mystical black church in the deserted hamlet of Budir. The sense of abandonment, the surrounding nature, and the unique architecture of this building make it a fascinating stop, particularly rewarding for photographers.

Finally, you’ll head to Ytri Tunga Beach, renowned for its resident seals. These beautiful animals are found in summer and winter, playing and relaxing just offshore, and the beach’s golden sands make it unique in Iceland, where the shores are usually black. Following this wonderful wildlife experience, you’ll be returned to your pick-up point in Reykjavik.

Explore the many diverse wonders of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula on this thrilling day tour from Iceland’s capital. Check availability by choosing a date.
