The Icelandic Phallological Museum

"Collecting penises is like collecting anything. You can never stop, you can never catch up, you can always get a new one, a better one." Fear not, these are not the words of some deranged, goolie-obsessed serial killer, but of Sigurður Hjartarson, founder of the Icelandic Phallological Museum. Now retired,  Sigurður has been collecting penises throughout the entirety of his adult life, accepting donations from friends and slaughterhouses, harvesting roadkill and beached animals, and even recruiting his own family members to collect potential specimens.  Having worked for over 26 years as

Kontiki Kayaking | Open Sea Adventures Off Snæfellsnes

I have been to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula once before, but never quite managed to venture to the small, yet picturesque town of Stykkishólmur, located on the region's northern edge. Two hours and fifteen minutes from Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavík, this was rectified last Saturday as I paid a visit to Kontiki Kayaking, a one man enterprise recently established by the town’s harbour.  Book Your Kayaking Tour Here: Sea Kayaking Tour | Departure from the Snaefellsnes Peninsula On this pleasant Saturday in August, I found the drive from Reykjavík to Stykkishólmur one of genial distractedness

Blackbox | New Pizza Place in Reykjavik

Guide to Iceland went to check out a newly opened pizzeria, Blackbox, just opposite the offices at Borgartún 26, as well as catch one of the opening games of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Read on for more information. The room is dark, with yellow paint splattered fashionably over empty picture frames, whilst the largest disco ball in Iceland spins precariously from the ceiling. A World Cup match is on, Spain vs Portugal, and whilst my interest in football is limited at best, I can’t help but cheer as Cristiano Ronaldo, the Icelandic Public Enemy Number 1, scores three goals. He’s won the match

Protecting Iceland's Whales | How To Help

As the Icelandic whaling company, Hvalur Hf., embarks on their first whale hunt in two years, the conservation group Sea Shepherd has entered local waters to document and protest this illegal slaughter of fin whales in Iceland. Guide to Iceland is an ambassador for Iceland and a mouthpiece for the preservation and protection of this country, and we do not condone the barbaric practice of whaling.  See Also: Whale Watching Tours in Iceland and Whale Watching in Iceland Frankly, I could go on about the cruelty of whaling all day. To contextualize my position, I have been a PADI Open Water s
