The fold at Fljótstunga

Every autumn there is a big sheep gathering not far from Reykholt, at Fljótstunga in Hvítársíða. The farmers go on horseback for days up on the mountains to heard their sheep. These are busy days, and much fun when they come riding down the valley with the herd in front of them. Dogs barking, men shouting! The local housewife-association selling coffee, hot cocoa, sandwiches and small round donuts - which we in Iceland call "ástarpungar" (love balls), a few have put a little something stronger in their coffee :) The weather this afternoon was amazing, 14 plus when I went from Reykholt at 17:30 and the view up to the glaciers above Fljótstunga without comparison ….
