Description

Experience Iceland’s glaciers from all sides with this brilliant ice caving tour from the country’s “Crown Jewel”, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, on the South Coast. This is an excellent tour opportunity for guests to Iceland who wish to gain a true insight into the nature of glaciers, as well as all those who wish to spice their time sightseeing along the South Coast with a touch of adventure.

On this demanding tour, you will be visiting one of the unique ice caves found within Vatnajökull glacier’s incredible system of outlet glaciers. You will always be visiting the best available ice cave that day, a choice left to the discretion of your experienced and knowledgeable guide. This choice will likely depend on weather conditions that particular day.

Ice-caving is not only a breathtaking experience for photographers who are able to snapshot these brilliant features but also for all of those longing to unravel the unique atmosphere of an Icelandic ice cave; inside these glittering walls of blue, guests will be privy to natural ice sculptures, intricate formations and deep, blue moulins, as well fantastic views at the cave’s entrance.

This tour meets at Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon car park, roughly 370 km away from Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavík. Upon arrival, you will quickly discover just why this glacial lagoon is widely regarded as one of Iceland’s most beautiful natural features; enormous icebergs float peacefully on the lagoon’s still surface, disturbed only by the playful splashing of the lagoons resident seals, and surrounded by an incredible ring of mountains, glaciers and gnarled hillsides.

From the lagoon's carpark, you'll board a vehicle and be driven on one of Iceland’s wild back roads to reach the edge of the outlet glacier. Once there, gear and safety instructions will be provided, as well as a short lesson on the area’s history, culture and fascinating geology. Amongst the necessary gear, you will be using is a helmet, head torch and crampons.

Then you'll get to marvel at the incredible scenery inside the glacier; the electric blue ice walls and the sheer and sparkling ice sculptures found inside. After exploring the cave for a while, snapping a few photos in the process, you'll head back to the vehicle and return to the glacier lagoon.

Please note that this tour is rated demending so a reasonable level og fitness is required as well as appropriate equipment such as hiking shoes and warm, waterproof, clothes.
