Yesterday after Iceland secured its place in the round of 8 in the European Championships, a street party erupted in Reykjavík! Long after the match was over, people were dancing and singing into the bright and clear summer night. I shot a few videos just to give people a glance of what it was like. 2-1! Iceland and England just competed in the round of 16 game. And as (Icelanders) predicted, Iceland won! What a game!!! Did you watch this beauty???!??!!! Ok, so, half of this blog is written in advance (all the sensible sentences where I don't screw up people's names and timings) - the other half is written approximately as long as it took me to celebrate briefly and walking home to write it (and stock up on booze). Iceland 2, Austria 1. It's official, Iceland is through to the round of 16 in the European Championship 2016. I'm writing this in a state of elation and incredulity - Iceland scored the first goal and by half-time the score was 1-0. Austria scored in the second half and the score was 1-1 until THE VERY LAST SECOND OF THE GAME! That's when Iceland managed to score another goal, so the final outcome was 2-1. The last goal was scored at 94 minutes into the game (there were additional 4 minutes given to the time) and as soon as the ball was inside the goal, the game was over. Absolutely incr

Will Iceland get through to the round of 16 in EURO 2016?
Everyone is talking about EURO 2016 in Iceland. That includes people that dislike football. Tomorrow Iceland plays its last game in Group F, against Austria. If Iceland wins, it has almost a guaranteed place in the round of 16, but not quite. It all depends on the other game that's taking place tomorrow, at the same time, between Portugal and Hungary. Iceland has had two draws so far, 1-1 when it played Portugal and 1-1 when it played Hungary. Portugal has also had two draws, besides the draw with Iceland they had a 0-0 draw when playing Austria. Last night Iceland's male football team debuted in a major championship: The quarter-finals of the European Championships. Iceland is a country with a very small population. VERY small population. So when the Icelandic (male) football team qualified for the European Championships, the nation got pretty excited. Icelanders are all bastards living in a feminist hell. According to some priest in Arizona at least. This same priest (I won't write his name, I don't want to give him more 'fame') has also had speeches that inspire hate against homosexuals and Jewish people, so it's not really a speech that you (or anyone) should take seriously as a 'message from God' or a 'message of love and what's right'. Best summer events in Iceland 2016!
I'm pretty excited about this summer. There's one (main) reason: I'm moving back to Iceland! But also, there are so many exciting and fun things going on in Iceland! On the 5th of May, I move to Iceland. For the past 7 years I've lived in London. So many things have happened here; I spent 3 years studying theatre and made some wonderful lifelong friends. Will Iceland's prime minister resign?
The Panama papers are the biggest data leak in history! HUGE protest about to take place in Iceland today! Iceland's prime minister, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, failed to declare a stake in an offshore company and is (understandably) getting a lot of heat as a result of the Panama Papers - which are the biggest data leak in history. Later today (at 5pm Iceland local time) there is a planned protest outside the Icelandic parliament where the citizens of Iceland will be demanding his resignation, along with the entire government. Northern Lights visible in Iceland in SUMMER 2016!
UPDATE: This was the April Fool's prank I made in 2016. It's (mainly) total hogwash. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can see the auroras during summertime in Iceland this year, for the first time EVER! Anyone that’s familiar with the Northern Lights knows that they can only be seen when it is dark outside and the sky is clear. Although the Northern Lights appear all year round, they can never be seen during summertime (except in late August), due to the bright summer nights and the stunning midnight sun.
