Description

Escape into nature with this wildlife-focused hiking tour in the South of Iceland. This tour is perfect for those who want to see some incredible landscapes and possibly spot some of the most iconic birdlife this country has to offer.

Your tour will be based in Cape Ingolfshofði. This is an isolated headland on the South Coast of Iceland halfway between Skaftafell National Park and Vatnajökull National Park. Ingolfshofði is not far from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

You will begin by crossing 6 km of waters, marshes and sands in a tractor-drawn hay cart. Along the way, you will be able to take in the varying surroundings of this isolated part of the country. Then your hike will begin. You will spend about an hour and a half exploring the cape. This area of Iceland is full of vegetation and as a result, has become a safe home for an abundance of native birdlife.

This historical nature reserve is home to birds like; great skuas, seafowl, guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and kittiwakes and the Atlantic puffin; a bird that many people flock to Iceland to see. The cliffs around the area are often filled with the busy activity of thousands of birds as they hunt and nest in the summer months.

Throughout the hike, not only will you spot some incredible birdlife, but you will also take in the enchanting expanses of the headland. The vast stretches of black sand are framed by ocean views, cliff faces, mountains and glaciers in the distance. This tour will provide some great memories and ample photo opportunities.

It is important to note that although you will travel in a hay cart at the start of this tour, the hike will involve some inclines. It is recommended that participants have a moderate level of fitness or hiking experience to take part.

If you’re looking to experience some beautiful glimpses of Iceland’s South Coast and see some native birds, then you shouldn’t miss the chance to take part in this incredible experience. Pick a date to check availability.
