The property is also just half a mile (about 1 kilometer) from the Ring Road, so it’s easy to reach some of the most famous attractions in the whole country. The incredible Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is only 16 miles (27 kilometers) from the guesthouse. Here, visitors can enjoy boat trips or beautiful walks, or can see Diamond Beach, where huge icebergs have washed ashore.

Laekjarhus Farm Holidays is also around 50 miles from the Skaftafell nature reserve, a spectacular part of the wider Vatnajokull National Park. Skaftafell is known for its rich flora and contrasting scenery – waterfalls, glacial lagoons, black sand deserts, and swirling geological formations are all on show.

There are a few restaurants pretty close to the guesthouse, including a handful near the Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, but the nearest town with all amenities is Hofn. Hofn is 34 miles (55 kilometers) from the guesthouse. It’s home to a large supermarket and several restaurants and cafés. It also has a couple of interesting museums, including the Thorbergur Center for Literature.

Laekjarhus Farm Holidays is set on a farm that boards, trains, and breeds horses. During your stay, you’ll be able to see Icelandic ponies roaming the grounds. You can also arrange a horse riding tour out to the Atlantic. These tours, run by the guesthouse managers, are an excellent way to explore the landscape that surrounds the property.

The accommodation’s rural location means that guests can enjoy beautiful sea and mountain views from the property. It’s peaceful and remote, so it can be a good place to see the northern lights if you’re traveling in the winter.

You have a few options when it comes to the accommodation itself. Standard twin and double rooms are available, and it’s possible to add an extra roll-out bed for a child. There’s also a family room, which contains two single beds (can be pushed together for a double) and a set of bunk beds. Guests staying in these rooms will have access to a shared bathroom and a shared kitchen.

There’s also an apartment with its own bathroom and kitchen facilities, which can sleep four people (with two on a sofa bed). The apartment has lovely mountain views. If you’re traveling in a larger group, it’s possible to rent out the guesthouse as a whole four-bedroom house, too. This option can comfortably sleep up to 10 adults.
